About Jennilyn:

Location

Los Angeles, California

Professional Background

Prior to CanIRank, one of my favorite jobs was working as an Apartment Coordinator. I had the pleasure of responding to noise complaints, clogged toilets, gas leaks, and other emergency situations. I also have experience in the publishing services, had a Summer internship for technical writing, and led a discussion class at UCLA. But ever since I stepped into the world of SEO, I’ve never looked back!

Random Tidbit

I enjoy gaming, high fantasy, and Halloween way too much.

Lightning Round Q&A with Jennilyn:

  • First off, tell us about your role here at CanIRank?
  • “I have two roles. I’m the People & Culture Specialist for CanIRank as well as a Lead Digital Marketing Specialist.

For my first role, I absolutely love bringing our team together and finding new ways to strengthen our company culture. We have wickedly smart and kind team members, and I’m so grateful that I get to work with all of them in this way!

The same can be said for our clients. As a Lead, seeing our team’s overall account strategy come to life and how it positively impacts clients’ ROI is one of the best parts of good SEO. The other part is getting to know the client on a deeper level; check-in calls are not only great for strategy, but it’s also wonderful to hear how they’ve been doing and even get a few laughs in before diving into the heavier stuff.”

  • How did you get started in SEO?
  • “Like many others in SEO, I kind of just fell into it. At the age of 10, I had an unhealthy addiction to Neopets, a browser-based game. You could design guild and user profiles using HTML and CSS, and from there I built my first website. I never thought those skills could translate over into a career until I graduated from university. I found a job as an executive assistant for a local SEO agency and worked my way up to becoming the SEO Director. I’ve been in the industry ever since!”
  • Can you tell us some of your favorite clients to work with here at CanIRank?
  • “I have a soft spot for EcoEnclose and PatientPop. They both have inspiring company missions!”
  • What is your favorite part of your job right now?
  • “I get to wear many different hats. Some days, I’m focused on initiatives that will help our internal team feel more connected. Other days, I’m doing a variety of promotions tasks and meeting with our clients. The best part is that I get to do this from the comfort of my home office which allows me to be as productive as possible.”
  • Do you prefer working with startups, SaaS, eCommerce, large-businesses, or have a particular favorite niche you enjoy? (Hard question, I know)
  • “I think it’s amazing to see smaller eCommerce businesses outrank the larger competition especially Amazon! SaaS is also fun since you get to see what others are innovating (there’s so much out there!).”
  • Would you rather find yourself living in a real-world version of “Avengers” or “The Simpsons?”
  • “Avengers. If I could choose, I’d want to be a Valkyrie. Winged horses are too cool to pass up.”

  • What is your all-time favorite dessert?
  • “Fresh fruit tarts.”
  • What is one piece of work that you are extremely proud of?
  • “When I first joined CanIRank, I put together a team training on local SEO. It was only a couple of months into the job, so I was a bit nervous presenting in front of the entire company! I also started an internal monthly newsletter which I’ve enjoyed designing.”
  • What is the neatest thing you’ve ever done?
  • “I’ve swum with dolphins and whales. I’ve also ziplined from one small island to another in the Philippines.”
  • Where do you further your digital marketing skillset?
  • “Honestly, our team does a great job of sharing digital marketing knowledge internally. One of my favorite meetings is our consultant training that takes place every 2 weeks. I’ll also scroll through my Twitter feed for the latest articles in SEO, and I’ll occasionally listen to podcasts but as with many marketing ideas, it’s important to take them with a grain of salt. Some articles are pure fluff, proclaim “SEO is dead” for the sake of clickbait, or lack the data to back up their claims.”
  • What is your favorite review/comment we’ve gotten from a CanIRank client?
  • “One of my current clients recommended CanIRank to a contact of theirs. That contact is now a client! This referral was a huge compliment to our team, and it made my day reading the announcement on Slack.
  • If you could ban one thing from existence, what would it be?
  • “Mosquitos with a passion. I have the worst allergic reactions to their bites, and one time, I couldn’t see out of my left eye. I went to work looking like a pirate with a patch on my eye.”
  • What is something unique that we should know about you?
  • “I always need to have my nails painted. And although I moved out at the age of 17, my mom still asks when I’ll stop playing video games (probably never).”
  • If you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
  • “I’d spend the morning recording video messages for every close person in my life. I’d also write an absurd amount of emails and have them scheduled to be sent to my boyfriend throughout the next few years so he knows that I’m always rooting for him.

Then I’d eat all of my favorite foods, hug my cats to death, try not to cry when I say goodbye to my family and friends, and end the day watching the sunset on the beach with a good bottle of whiskey.”

  • Baby goats or baby chicks?
  • “Baby chicks! Only because I’ve been playing Harvest Moon, and I just named my chickens Frittata, Benedict, and Cooper.”

And… that’s a wrap!
